Three Utilities, One River, Two Generations of Pools
How Lakeway Water and Lakeway Pools Actually Behave
Lakeway water comes from Lakeway MUD in the older core, Travis County WCID 17 around Flintrock Falls and Serene Hills, or the West Travis County PUA in the newer areas. Three bills, one source: treated Lake Travis surface water, moderately hard, around 70 to 130 ppm. The utility is not what separates Lakeway pools. Age is. A pool that has evaporated and refilled since the Reagan administration without a partial drain can carry 500 ppm of calcium and enough cyanuric acid to make chlorine sluggish, while a new Rough Hollow pool is still near its fill numbers.
So the pool's history is our first input. On the old-core pools, the weekly panel watches calcium and cyanuric acid, and when the numbers say so we book a partial drain for a cool month, never August on old plaster. On the new builds, the job is keeping fill numbers from drifting: pH held at 7.4 to 7.6, alkalinity at 80 to 120 ppm, salt in the 2,700 to 3,400 ppm window, cyanuric acid at 60 to 80 on salt cells. Both generations get the same saturation-index math; scale does not care what year the pool was built.
Then, everything the lake and hills throw in. Wind off Lake Travis fills a skimmer basket in a day in cedar season; Ashe juniper and live oak add pollen, catkins, and leaves on their own calendars; deer add whatever deer add. Golf-course lots at Lakeway Country Club, Flintrock Falls, and The Hills get clippings and fertilizer drift, and fertilizer means phosphate, which feeds algae. Hillside lots put the spa above the pool, and a spillway aerating water all day pushes pH up. And plenty of these are second homes, so the owner reads about it on a phone.
